SMT Assembly Reliability
When loading SMT components, what do your machines do to ensure the component is the correct one and correctly placed?

Hi David,
the machine centers the standard SMT components with a camera and then places it at the specified coordinates from the Layout / pick & place file.
Thus, the components must be fed properly they have sufficient and accurately be labeled (see specifications) so that we can assign this right.
After assembling the modules they will be visually inspected for completeness and correct polarity.
For a correct assembling it is important that the footprints in the layout are still fits to the component case.

Hi there,
Every board designed is unique, will have different requirements, and will require different trade-offs on the design, but there are basic guidelines of component placement that will go a long way toward creating a professional board that can be easily moved from the design table to reality.
Automated pick and place machines all function by picking up a component in one place and putting it in another. Once the nozzle has a firm hold of the component, it lifts it up and places it where it is needed, releasing the suction as soon as the part is in place. While the original and final position of the component are programmed into the pick and place machine. These locations are confirmed with computer vision, verifying that the board is truly in the expected position. It also verifies that the component is actually picked up by the nozzle.
